Any suggestions on how to eradicate the swarm of fruit flies that are currently attacking our home?
My Mom suggested leaving a bottle of wine open on the counter with a couple inches on wine left at the bottom, which I am going to try as soon as I go to the store to buy a bottle of wine.
I need help, they are driving me crazy!!! Marcy I am reminded of your blog posting about fruit flies and I feel your pain.

ReplyDeleteI've found out (the hard way) that swarms of fruit flies usually have a source somewhere. Last time, for us, I eventually found a rotting potato (YUCK is an understatement) in the very bottom of our pasta cabinet. So gross. But once I found the source, it was pretty easy to get rid of them.
So make sure there's not an old piece of food that fell behind your garbage can, cupboards, etc.
Then, I stretched a piece of plastic wrap over a cup with some cider vinegar mixed with a little dish soap (so their wings get sticky and they can't fly out). Poke a few holes so they can crawl in but not out.
Also, I just kept my vacuum in the kitchen for a week and continuously vacuumed up all the blasted little devils before they did the nasty and made more fruit flies.

AWEsome. There are so many reasons I love you girls. This is sure that time of year. I have smashed 5 just tonight. It's a massacre here and there are still more swarming! NASTY!
