Cute Boy!

Through the night?

After a long hot day of church, trekking over to Seattle for an afternoon/evening with friends and a kind of late bedtime, James was tuckered out. It was about 90 degrees in our house last night so it took a little time for him to settle into a good sleep however once he was out, he was out!

I am pretty sure he finally went down about 9:30 (late for him) and at 5:00am I woke up with my body telling me it was way past time to feed the little guy but no little guy awake to feed. Usually James wakes up at around 3:00am and then again at 6:00am but last night something changed and instead he slept until 6:30am! That's right, nine hours of sleep in a row!

California Boy

James goes to California

This past weekend James went on his first airplane ride to California to attend Amanda and Phil's wedding and of course see family. James did great on both plane flights and had an awesome time with his eight crazy cousins.

Exercise

Since giving birth to my little boy I haven't stressed too much about getting back into shape however this past week I have been feeling kinda crummy. Perhaps it's the lovely October weather we've been having here in Seattle or maybe it's that I get winded running up our many flights of stairs. Either way it's time to get back on the workout wagon.

The problem that I've had however is how exactly to get exercise with a two month old in tow and a part time job to take care of.....well I may have the answer. Workout videos!

Yep, I am officially drawing the blinds and dancing/boxing my way back to a pre-pregnancy me, thanks to my friend Kelly who lent me a couple DVDs. Carrie, Jaime and Nicole will remember my (and Carrie's) workout video phase in college and now I am back at it.

Unfortunately, as Carrie will remember and probably chuckle to recall, I am not exactly gifted in the rhythm department. Today was my first video workout day and although I did work up a sweat, I am VERY glad that no one was able to see me as I stumbled through the steps....well except for James of course who laughed at me almost the entire time.

I kept trying to keep up with the ladies on the video but instead I found myself running into the coffee table, tripping over my feet and generally craving chocolate the whole time.

Oh well, at least I'm trying, maybe I'll be better at kickboxing......

Jaime!

My dear friend Jaime came into town a couple weeks ago from LA so James finally got to meet his cool aunt Jaime who will most likely be famous one day. Here is a pic from the visit:

Eine Geschenk-Packung aus Deutschland!

Tranlation: "A gift-box from Germany!"

James recently received a welcome (to the world) gift-box from his surrogate German family, the Hillers. His Oma (Grandma) Angelika and his Tante (auntie) Julia set him up in style! His haul included:
  • Hand-knit Merino Wool Jacket (super soft, cozy warm!)
  • Ringer onesie (like regular onesies, but way cooler!)
  • Euro-trendy shirt & jeans outfit (lookout ladies!)
  • Plush star w/jingle bells (DELICIOUS!)
We hope you enjoy the photos as much as James enjoyed his presents. And many special thanks to the Hillers: Opa Manfred, Oma Angelika, Tante Julia (who is actually a Depenau now) and Onkel Fabian.

James is looking forward to meeting his first-ever German cousin, Janne Depenau. Rumor has it that Janne (pronounced YAW-nuh for you English-speaking types) is sporting some of the same stylish cloths James received. You bet!

Poopy Sunday

Here is the story of the poop on the couch.

I was upstairs folding laundry, minding my own business, when I heard Ryan call out: "Sweetie!? Can you come down here?". The tone in his voice told me that something wasn't quite right but since he wasn't screaming I figured everyone probably still had their limbs intact.

I rushed downstairs where I found Ryan sitting awkwardly (because there was poop running down his jeans) on the floor changing James' diaper and the couch literally sprayed with poop. Perhaps Ryan should weigh in on this to tell his side of the story but what I am told happened is this.

Our son, who has amazing pooping abilities, was laying on his daddy's lap when out of nowhere poop shot out the side of his diaper, down Ryan's lap and finally, onto the couch......which is white (doh!). Ryan grabbed whatever he could find to control the situation, which happened to be a burp cloth, and carefully moved to the floor to clean up the boy.

Since Ryan's jeans were also covered in poop and threatening to poopify our carpet I asked him to take them off to be washed, making the scene that much more hilarious. Here I am, elbow deep in poopy couch and carpet cleaner (it was all I could find) while Ryan is half dressed cleaning the little man.

The moral of the story is of course to never own a white couch, especially if you have kids.

James at Work

Well I started working this week (part time from home) and although we have a little less play time during the day now, James and I are adapting well. Here's a photo of the little man helping me with some computer work that I was doing earlier this week.

*****NOTE: I did not leave James in the Bumbo seat unattended on my desk, don't worry.

Snoring James!

Papa Ryan here,

I finally got around to uploading some video! This is young James at four weeks old, sleeping like a baby on his Dad's lap. Turn up the sound to hear him snoring!

We love you, Little Man!

Consider 2008

If you live in the Seattle area you should go to Consider 2008...here are the details:

A concert has been organized by Ryan's friend and fraternity brother, David Evanger, to celebrate the life of his sister, Kim, who was killed in 2007 in a bicycling accident.

Click here for details: Consider 2008
Excerpt from the site:

"We are blessed to have two amazing artists join us on this special night… Shawn McDonald and Ben Rector. The concert will be held at The Showbox Theatre in Seattle, WA, one of the West Coast’s premier music venues.

The concert is inspired by the life of Kim Evanger Raney, who on March 17th 2007, at the age of 26, left this earth to be with the Lord. Upon leaving she left us with one simple but powerful message ... to just Consider. So as we remember this incredible friend, daughter, sister, wife, and human being, we honor her by responding to her last request... deeply and purposefully considering the questions of our hearts – life, death, eternity, purpose, grace, God, salvation Jesus Christ. And at the same time simply marvel at the amazing privilege we have been given to freely Consider."
